Bank Holiday Sales
Know your rights for the bank holiday sales, advises Consumer Direct.
As many people rush out over the Bank Holiday Weekend to take advantage of the summer sales, Consumer Direct is advising shoppers that they have exactly the same rights when they buy sale goods as they do for full price items.
If consumers buy goods in the sales, they are entitled to expect their purchase to be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described. If this is not the case, and the goods are returned within a reasonable time, then customers should generally be entitled to their money back.
Consumers also have alternate rights to choose to ask for a replacement or repair instead of a refund.
Consumer Direct spokesperson Clive Kenyon says: 'Many people think that if you buy goods in the sales, you forfeit your consumer rights. Some shops put notices up saying there are no refunds on sale goods, but don’t be fooled - you have exactly the same rights to refunds, repairs and replacements on sale goods that you would on full price items. If a product is a reduced price because it is faulty, this should be pointed out to you in advance.'
Last year, Consumer Direct in the South West received over 56,000 calls from people asking for information or clarification about their consumer rights when looking to buy goods and services.
